The Legal 500 United States 2020 Edition Recommends Five Neal Gerber Eisenberg Practices and 21 Attorneys

Five Neal Gerber Eisenberg practice groups and 21 attorneys have been recognized among the top in the nation in the newly released 2020 edition of The Legal 500 United States.

The firm continues to be recommended in the areas of M&A/Corporate & Commercial: M&A: Middle-market (sub-$500 million);  Intellectual Property: Trademarks Litigation;  Real Estate;  Employee Benefits, Executive Compensation and Retirement Plans: Design;  and US Taxes: Non-contentious. 

The Legal 500 notes the Corporate & Securities practice group is “totally client-focused and sensitive to balancing contractual risk and business risk.”  David Stone and John Koenigsknecht, co-chairs of the firm’s Cross-Border and International group, are well regarded for their work in the metals and mining space.  Michael Gray leads the Private Equity, Venture Capital and Growth Companies group, which one client described as “the best attorneys I’ve worked with.”  Practice chair Bobby Gerber comes newly recommended for 2020, and partners Tina DeMento and Josh Klein continue their strong showing.

New to the group of recommended Intellectual Property attorneys are Mike Turner and Tony McShane, with the latter noted for his work representing the tobacco company DLR Enterprises.  Intellectual Property co-chair Michael Kelber comes recommended for his trademark work in the electronics and hospitality sectors, Lee Eulgen for his work with Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, and Kevin May for his representation of Duracell.

The firm’s Real Estate group is recognized for its work in portfolio transactions and financing and development matters in Chicago, as well as numerous large sales and investment deals in New York Massachusetts and Colorado. Recommended attorneys include practice chair Doug Lubelchek, partners Doug Ellis and Avram Feldman, and newly recommended partner Leah Schleicher.

Jeff Bakker and Patty Cain, co-chairs of the Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation practice group, are noted for their work in defined benefit cash-balance plans (including terminations), withdrawal liability assessments, equity and deferred compensation arrangements, and 401(k) plan governance.  Linda Hoseman comes recommended as “the go-to name for health and welfare plan governance.”

Legal 500 notes the firm’s Tax group’s “expertise in transactional tax planning and state and local taxation." Co-chair Scott Bakal is recommended for his work on tax aspects of business transactions and estate planning matters, while co-chair John Biek is noted for cross-border corporate income tax and franchise taxation matters.
