Tonya G. Newman, partner in the General & Commercial Litigation and Insurance Policyholder practice groups at Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP, has been named to the 14th annual Women Worth Watching® Award list. Newman is one of the Top 100 business trailblazers who will be recognized by Profiles in Diversity Journal in the upcoming summer 2015 issue.
“Tonya carries on a tradition of inclusion of Neal Gerber Eisenberg women in Women Worth Watching,” said Jerry H. Biederman, managing partner of Neal Gerber Eisenberg. “Tonya has an incredible work ethic, strong commitment to excellent client service and a history of serving as a role model to countless attorneys, both within our firm and in the community. She is one of our ‘homegrown’ attorneys—coming to us as a summer associate and working her way up to partnership—and this well deserved recognition is another chapter in her growing legal career.”
This year’s honorees represent corporations, government agencies and nonprofits from across North America and Europe. The stories of their professional achievements and first-person accounts of lessons learned during their careers are insightful and thought provoking.
“When we launched our inaugural Women Worth Watching issue, we knew we were doing something unique,” said Kathie Sandlin, the magazine’s editor in chief.
“I am honored to be included in this roster of impressive women,” said Newman. “In addition to being true to myself and working hard to achieve my goals, I have incredible support through my firm—from supporting my pro bono interests and work to my leadership positions in the American Bar Association.”
Newman received her J.D., with high honors, in 2005 from Chicago-Kent College of Law and earned her B.A. from the University of Louisville in 2001. She represents clients in complex civil litigation, products liability and insurance coverage matters. She is recognized as one of the Top 50 women in Illinois Super Lawyers for 2015, and holds many leadership positions within the American Bar Association, including serving as vice chair of the Section of Litigation, Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee, co-chair of the Women in Products Liability and Consumer Products Subcommittees and managing editor of Coverage, a national American Bar Association publication. She is also a Leadership Council Member of the Posse Foundation.
