Kara focuses her practice on assisting clients in the areas of trademark, copyright, licensing and litigation. She counsels clients on trademark office action responses and manages proceedings in Trademark Trial and Appeal Board actions. She strategizes, negotiates and drafts trademark consent, coexistence and licensing agreements.
Kara has experience with intellectual property litigation, including drafting pleadings, discovery, summary judgment motions and pre-trial motions. Kara also works with clients to conduct intellectual property due diligence ahead of corporate and equity transactions.
In addition to her practice, Kara is an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law where she teaches Advanced Legal Writing for Intellectual Property Practice and coaches Loyola’s Vienna Vis Moot Team. Kara serves on the volunteer board of directors for Ms. JD, an organization dedicated to the success of aspiring and early-career women lawyers. Kara is also an Academic Committee Member of the International Trademark Association and a member of The Richard Linn American Inn of Court.
She has volunteered in the community with the General Electric Street Law Program and with Saint Margaret Mercy Hospital as a patient ambassador and volunteer. Before she became a lawyer, she was a legal operations clerk for General Electric Global Research in New York and also worked at a Chicago IP litigation boutique.
